अन्ध-विश्वास के साथ मेरी जंग : कुछ अनुभव -13

जैसे ही सर्प-दंश से पीडित कोई व्यक्ति गणेश के पास पहुँचता है वह तुरंत ही अपने चार-पाँच चेलो को बुला लेता है। यदि जहरीले सर्प का दंश है तो वे बिना विलम्ब मुँह मे धी और जडी-बूटियो का लेप लगाकर जहर खीचना आरम्भ करते है। मुँह से जहर खीचते जाते है और बगल मे थूकते जाते है। उसके शिष्य भी इस प्रक्रिया को दोहराते है। जल्दी ही मरीज ठीक होकर काम मे लग जाता है। गणेश ने अब तक सैकडो जाने बचायी है और उसके जीवन मे उसके गाँव मे एक भी व्यक्ति आज तक सर्प दंश से नही मरा है। दूर-दूर से उसके पास मरीज आते है। एंटी-वेनम के लिये कुछ घंटो की शर्त है पर गणेश का कहना है कि मरीज मे जीवन का अंश रहना चाहिये फिर वह उसे बचा सकता है। यदि मरीज खाने-पीने की स्थिति मे होता है तो उसे जडी-बूटियो से ठीक किया जाता है पर यदि मरणासन्न स्थिति मे हो तो फिर मुँह से जहर खीचने के अलावा कोई विकल्प नही होता। उसने अपने जीवन मे 25 से अधिक विषैली जातियो का विष निकाला है। मरीज की जाने बचाने की उसकी फीस है एक नारियल और सवा रुपये। हाँ, आपने ठीक पढा, एक नारियल और सवा रुपये। फिर भी यह दुखद बात है कि बहुत से मरीज इतना भी उसे नही देते है। फिर भी उसे किसी भी प्रकार की शिकायत नही होती।
आज अलसुबह से मै गणेश के साथ था। विभिन्न पहलुओ पर चर्चा करता रहा। जंगलो से लायी गयी जडी-बूटियाँ उसे भेट की और बदले मे उसने मुझे अपने पारम्परिक ज्ञान से परिचित कराया। वह साल भर साँप पकडता तो है पर जहर निकालने के पक्ष मे कभी नही रहता। केवल ऋषि पंचमी के दिन पकडे गये साँप का जहर वह निकालता है। वह और उसके शिष्य़ इसी दिन जडी-बूटियो का सेवन कर इस विष का पान करते है। इसी दिन वह एक अनुष्ठान के लिये सर्प के जहरीले दाँत तोडता है। वह सेठो द्वारा साँप को तिजोरी मे रखने के खिलाफ है। सेठ अपने धन की रक्षा के लिये इन दाँतो को अपनी तिजोरी मे रखते है। गणेश का कहना है कि इन दाँतो मे विष का अंश भी रहा तो ये इसे रखने वाले व्यक्ति के लिये अभिशाप बन सकता है। वह तो यह भी कहता है कि यदि साँप की चमडी या मरे हुये साँप के किसी हिस्से से पैरो का जख्म घिस जाये तो जहर फैलने की सम्भावना रहती है।
कृषि मे रसायनो के बढते प्रयोग ने साँपो पर विपरीत असर डाला है। गणेश बताता है कि पहले जब एल्ड्रीन का प्रयोग होता था तो ढेरो साँप मर जाते थे। अब थीमेट और हिनोसान से बडी संख्या मे साँप-बिच्छुओ का खात्मा हो रहा है। दोनो ही रसायनो का प्रयोग खेती मे बडी मात्रा मे होता है। साँपो की कमी से नेवले और चूहो की संख्या मे बेतहाशा बढोतरी हुयी है।
गणेश को रायपुर के जाने-माने अस्पताल एमएमआई के चिकित्सको ने हुनर दिखाने के लिये आमंत्रित किया। जब वह जहर खीचने को तैयार हुआ तो डाक्टरो ने उसे रोका और हिदायत दी कि इससे मुँह मे छाले हो सकते है। पर उसने कहा कि वह सालो से इस कार्य को कर रहा है और उसने इसे करके दिखा भी दिया। मै आज जब तक उसके साथ रहा पूरा क्षेत्र उसे नमन करता रहा है और वह सबका अभिवादन स्वीकार करता रहा।
इस साल राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री उसके गाँव मे हेलीकाप्टर से उतरे तो उसने एक नाग मन्दिर के लिये कुछ आर्थिक सहायता माँगी। उसे विधायक से मिलने कहा गया। विधायक ने एक लाख रुपये की घोषणा की तो गणेश के शिष्यो ने इसे अखबारो मे छपवा दिया। इस पर उसे बहुत डाँट पडी और विधायक ने अब तक दस रुपये तक नही दिये है-ऐसा गणेश ने दुखभरे स्वर मे मुझसे कहा। इस प्रकृति पुत्र के 250 से अधिक शिष्य है। इसे वह एक बडा परिवार मानता है। ये सभी शिष्य़ राज्य भर मे अपनी नि:शुल्क सेवाए दे रहे है।
सर्प दंश वाले स्थान पर चीरा लगाकर मरीज को बहुत जल्दी बचाया जा सकता है-गणेश का ऐसा कहना है पर ऐसा करने पर स्थानीय पुलिस वाले उसे परेशान करते है। इसलिये वह और उसके शिष्य़ जान जोखिम मे डालकर मुँह से जहर खीचते है। मुझे साँपो से डर लगता है फिर भी हिम्मत करके जब मैने उसका शिष्य़ बनने की इच्छा जतायी तो उसने इसे सहर्ष स्वीकार कर लिया। मै अपने को बहुत ही सौभाग्यशाली मान रहा हूँ।
मैने गणेश के काम पर एक छोटी सी फिल्म बनायी है और ढेरो तस्वीरे ली है। जल्दी ही आप इन्हे इंटरनेट पर देख पायेंगे। गणेश जैसे लोगो से जब मै मिलता हूँ तो लगता है कि मै असली भारत से मिल रहा हूँ। नाम-मात्र के पैसे लेकर अपने जान पर खेलते हुये सैकडो लोगो की जान बचाने वाला गणेश उसके अपने देश मे सम्मान के लिये तरस रहा है। ऐसे धरती पुत्रो की सही जगह देश के नाँलेज कमीशन जैसे संस्थानो मे होनी चाहिये ताकि वे देश भर सही मायने मे पारम्परिक ज्ञान के माध्यम आम लोगो की सेवा कर रहे भारतीयो के हित मे कुछ सशक्त कदम उठा सके। मुझे विश्वास है कि आप भी इससे सहमत होंगे। (क्रमश:)
