अन्ध-विश्वास के साथ मेरी जंग : कुछ अनुभव -1

सामने धधकती आग थी। सारी तैयारियाँ पूरी हो चुकी थी। हम तीन लोग नंगे पाँव खडे थे। दर्शको का एक बडा समूह हमे घेरे हुये था। सभी उम्र के लोग थे। वे चिल्ला रहे थे और हमारी हौसला आफजायी कर रहे थे। आग के ऊपर नमक का छिडकाव किया जा रहा था। एक टेबल फैन भी रखा था ताकि आग धधकती रहे। मन मे किसी भी प्रकार का डर नही था। हमे आग पर से नंगे पाँव चलना था। कुछ कदमो की बात थी। तेजी से यह छोटी सी दूरी पार करनी थी। फिर किसी तरह से जलने का सवाल ही नही था। क्योकि अपने व्याख्यानो मे हमने पूरे विश्वास के साथ कहा था कि आग पर चलना किसी तरह का चमत्कार नही है। यह विज्ञान सम्मत है। जैसे घर मे माताए रोटी बनाते समय तवे को खाली हाथ छू देती है तो चूँकि उनका सम्पर्क कुछ पलो का होता है इसलिये वे जलती नही है। हमे तेजी से आग मे इसीलिये चलना था ताकि पैरो को जलाने का मौका आग को न मिले। हमने पुस्तक भी प्रकाशित की थी जिसमे यह दोहराया गया था कि आग पर चलने का प्रदर्शन किया जा सकता है बिना नुकसान के। हमे याद है कि व्याख्यान के बीच कई स्थानो पर लोगो ने हमे चैलेंज किया था कि बोलने से कुछ नही होता, चल के दिखाओ तो जाने। आज हम आग पर चल कर दिखाने वाले थे।

कैमरे की भी व्यवस्था कर ली थी। तभी किसी ने मजाक मे हमे हिदायत दी कि हम मोबाइल बन्द कर दे। कही बीच रास्ते मे फोन आ गया और हम बात करने लग गये तो लेने के देने पड जायेंगे। हमे तैयार होता देख दर्शको मे अजीब सी खामोशी छा गयी। पहले दो लोग तेजी से निकल गये। लोगो ने जोर से तालियाँ बजायी। फिर मेरी बारी आयी। पहला कदम बढाया तो वह आग मे कुछ धँस सा गया। फिर दूसरा कदम बढाया वह भी कुछ धँसा। फिर अगले कदम से आग से बाहर हो गया। तालियो की आवाज से मन आनन्दित हो गया। लोग गले मिल रहे थे और डेयरिंग वाले इंसान होने की बात कह रहे थे।

इन सब से ध्यान बँटा तो पैरो मे हो रही जलन की ओर ध्यान गया। साथ वाले से पूछा कि जलन हो रही है क्या किया जाये? पहले तो उसने ध्यान नही दिया फिर मेरा मुँह दबाकर बोला कि जलन तो मुझे भी हो रही है पर यहाँ शोर मचाकर सब गुड गोबर मत करो। मै एक किनारे पर जाकर बैठ गया। लोगो ने मुझे घेर लिया और फिर पूछने लगे कही जले तो नही? मुझे बात छुपाने का आदेश था। मैने मोजे पहने और लडखडाते हुये लोगो से दूर होता गया। एक-एक कदम बेहद पीडा से भरा हुआ था। मै अपनी स्कूटर तक पहुँचा और फिर घर की तरफ चल पडा। रास्ते मे दर्द इतना बढा कि मुझे मरहम लेकर एक मित्र की दुकान पर रुकना ही पडा। जब हमने जख्मो को देखा तो हमारे होश उड गये। पैर बुरी तरह जल गये थे। बाये पैर का पंजा काला पड चुका था। एक सप्ताह के सतत इलाज के बाद कुछ राहत मिली। पर इतने वर्षो बाद आज भी बाये पैर के पंजे की त्वचा काली की काली है, एकदम जली हुयी। यह प्रदर्शन हादसा बन गया था। जिन्होने भी इस आग को पार किया सभी जले और अपना इलाज करवाते रहे पर जिस समिति से हम जुडे थे उसकी साख बचाने के लिये हमने मीडिया से लेकर उन सभी लोगो से झूठ बोला जो हमारे चेहरे पर पीडा देखकर प्रश्न कर बैठे थे। सबसे ज्यादा दुख इस बात का था कि हमने गलत व्याख्यान दिये। उस दिन यह सबक मिला कि खुद पर आजमाये बिना कभी भी किसी को गलत या सही ठहराने का दुस्साहस नही करना।

पर हम आग मे जले क्यो? हमारी समिति के एक वरिष्ठ सदस्य श्री चन्द्रशेखर व्यास उस समय मौजूद थे। उन्हे आग पर चलने का कई बार का अनुभव था। वे लगातार हमे सलाह दे रहे थे कि कुछ समय पूर्व जलायी गयी आग मे यह प्रदर्शन किया जा सकता है पर वहाँ तो आग को जलाये घंटो हो चुके थे। राख जमने लगी थी जो दुर्घटना को आमंत्रण दे रही थी। वे तैयारियो से भी नाखुश थे। चलते समय पैर नही धँसना चाहिये ऐसी तैयारी की आवश्य्कत्ता थी। वे पूरी तरह से संतुष्ट नही थे इसलिये उन्होने तय कार्यक्रम से पहले ही स्थल छोड देने का निर्णय किया। एक अनुभवी के चले जाने से हम सब को बडी हानि उठानी पडी। बाद मे लोगो ने बताया कि आग मे चलने से पहले पैरो को अच्छे से धो लेना चाहिये। चलने के बाद भी ऐसा करना चाहिये जिससे कि त्वचा जले न। यदि तलवो मे कोई जख्म हो या गोखरु (कार्न) हो तो यह प्रदर्शन न करे। पर किसी ने मुझे यह नही बताया। यह तो ऊपर वाले की मेहरबानी थी कि कोई बडा हादसा नही हुआ।

जैसी कि उम्मीद थी स्थानीय अखबारो ने शेष दो लोगो के बारे मे बढा-चढा कर छापा और एक बार फिर आम लोगो तक यह सन्देश गया कि आग पर चलना कोई चमत्कार नही है। मैने जले पैरो के साथ मीडिया से दूरी रखी। आज जब उनमे से एक को राष्ट्रीय पुरुस्कार से नवाजा जा चुका है और अब वापस नही लिया जायेगा-यह सुनिश्चित जानकर मैने अपने अनुभव लिखने का बीडा उठाया ताकि कोई नौसीखीया इस तरह के व्याख्यानो को सुनकर या पुस्तको को पढकर यह जोखिम न उठाये। (क्रमश:)
