अन्ध-विश्वास के साथ मेरी जंग : कुछ अनुभव -7

फोटोग्राफी के लिये मै गाडी के रुकते ही जंगल मे घुस पडा। आस-पास ऐठी के बहुत से पौधे उगे हुये थे। मैने इसकी तस्वीर उतारी। यह वही ऐठी है जिसके फल मुडे हुये होते है और ऐठन को प्रदर्शित करते है। शरीर मे होने वाली किसी भी प्रकार की ऐठन मे इसका आँतरिक प्रयोग होता है। साथ मे चल रहे लोग पीछे रह गये और मै जंगल के अन्दर बढ चला। अचानक तेन्दु का एक पौधा मुझे दिखा जिसकी पत्तियाँ कटी-फटी थी। मै समझ गया कि इसमे कीडो का आक्रमण हुआ है। कीडो मे विशेष रुचि होने के कारण मैने पत्तियो को पलटना शुरु किया। अचानक ही अंगुली मे काँटे जैसी चीज चुभने का अहसास हुआ और मेरे मुँह से चीख निकल आयी। मुझे समझ नही आया क्योकि काँटे जैसी कोई चीज आस-पास नजर नही आ रही थी। दर्द असहनीय होता जा रहा था। प्रभावित भाग मे चकत्ते उभर आये। फिर सिर भी घूमने लगा। तब तक पीछे चल रहे लोग आ गये। चीख से उन्होने समझा था कि बिच्छू या साँप ने आक्रमण कर दिया है। जंगल की परवाह किये बिना तब मै जमीन पर लेट गया था औत दर्द से तडप रहा था। साथ चल रहे लोगो ने आस-पास तलाश की पर उन्हे न बिच्छू मिला न साँप। तभी एक बुजुर्ग ने कहा कि यह इस कीडे के कारण हुआ है। कीडे के कारण ऐसी पीडा? मै उठ खडा हुआ। सही मे एक इल्ली तेंदु की पत्तियो को चट कर रही थी। उसके शरीर के बाहरी ओर काँटो का समूह था। इसी पर मेरा हाथ पड गया था। पर उसे इससे कोई फर्क नही पडा था। वह अब भी मजे से खाने मे जुटी हुयी थी।
चाहे कुछ भी हो जाये, इसे खुजलाना नही। बुजुर्ग ने चेताया। यदि खुजलाया तो लेने के देने पड जायेंगे। सचमुच खुजली तो बहुत हो रही थी। पर मैने उसकी बात मानने का फैसला किया। जहर का असर बढता ही जा रहा था। मेरे चेहरे के रंग को देखकर उसने कहा कि कोने मे जाकर प्रभावित अंगुली पर पेशाब कर लो। मैने यह किया। अक्सर जब भी हमे चोट लगती है जंगल भ्रमण के दौरान तो आस-पास कुछ न मिलने पर हम यही करते है। पर इस कीडे के लिये मूत्र का उपयोग मेरे लिये नयी जानकारी थी। उस समय मेरे शरीर की जैसी स्थिति थी उससे मुझे बार-बार एंटी-एलर्जी दवा की याद आ रही थी। हल्दी पावडर की भी याद आ रही थी। मुझे लग रहा था कि गरम पानी के साथ इसकी फंकी काफी हद तक मुझे ठीक कर सकती है। पर यह सब जंगल मे मिल पाना नामुमकिन था। अभियान रुक चुका था। अस्पताल कोसो दूर था। अनिर्णय की स्थिति बन रही थी। क्या करे, क्या न करे।
अचानक ही उस बुजुर्ग ने मंत्रो का जाप शुरु कर दिया। फिर झूमने लगा। हम सब बडी रुचि से उसे देखने लगे। तरह-तरह के देवी-देवताओ के नाम कहने लगा। उनसे माफ कर देने की बात भी दोहराता रहा। खुजली और दर्द से ध्यान बँट गया और बीस मिनट बाद सारी समस्या से निजात मिल गयी। साथ चल रहे लोग उस बुजुर्ग के फैन हो गये। वे समझ गये कि यह तो पहुँचा हुआ इंसान है।
वापस आकर मैने सन्दर्भ साहित्यो को खंगालना शुरु किया। देशी ग्रंथो मे तो इस बारे मे कोई सूचना नही मिली पर विदेशी साहित्यो से पता चला कि यह स्लग कैटरपिलर है। इसके काँटे बडे ही जहरीले होते है। एक बार चुभ गये तो बडी यंत्रणा पहुँचाते है। जितना खुजलाओ उतना अन्दर घुसते जाते है और तकलीफ बढती जाती है। ठीक केवाँच नामक वनस्पति के खुजली करने वाले रोमो की तरह। अमेरीकी सेना ने अपने सैनिको की सुरक्षा के लिये एक निर्देशिका का प्रकाशन किया है। उसमे इस कीट के विषय मे विस्तार से जानकारी दी गयी है। कैसे इसे पहचाने से लेकर कैसे दर्द से मुक्ति पाये? यह आन-लाइन है। इसमे बताया गया है कि एडेहेसिव टेप को प्रभावित भाग मे चिपकाने से यह काँटो को बाहर खीच लेता है। इसमे एंटी-एलर्जी दवा लेने की बात की गयी है। यह भी कहा गया है कि आपात स्थिति मे प्रभावित को एयर लिफ्ट कर तुरंत अस्पताल ले जाना चाहिये। मै डर गया और मन ही मन ऊपर वाले को धन्यवाद दिया कि मेरे लिये ऐसी नौबत नही आयी। मुझे आधुनिक विज्ञान का ‘आ’ भी न जानने वाले बुजुर्ग के ज्ञान पर अचरज हुआ। मन ही मन आदर के भाव भी जागे। उसने खुजलाने मना कर समस्या को बढने से बचा लिया। मूत्र के प्रयोग से संक्रमण नही फैला। पर उसके बाद की प्रक्रिया समझ नही आयी। सो मैने फिर से मुलाकात का मन बनाया।
एक कोने मे ले जाकर उस बुजुर्ग ने राज खोला और कहा कि उस पूरी प्रक्रिया का एकमात्र उद्देश्य आपका ध्यान दर्द से हटाना था। मूत्र अपना काम कर रहा था। आप खुजला नही रहे थे इसलिये मर्ज तो बढने वाला नही था। ध्यान बँटने से शरीर को मरम्मत के काम को करने मे आसानी हुयी। वह अपने संसाधनो को सही जगह पर लगा पाया। मै अवाक सा सुनता रहा। अपनी बात खत्म कर उसने कहा कि यह राज आप मेरे गाँव के लोगो को मत बताना। यह प्रक्रिया इलाज मे एक महत्वपूर्ण प्रक्रिया है। यह भले ही बेकाम की लगे पर यह जरुरी है। यह मेरी औषधीयो के प्रभाव को बढा देती है। उस बुजुर्ग की बाते सुनकर मुझे सहसा दर्द निवारक बाम की याद आ गयी जो काउंटर इरिटेंट की तरह दर्द को कम करने की बजाय दर्द से ध्यान हटा देता है और रोगी को लगता है कि दर्द का उपचार हो गया।
मैने अपने निज चिकित्सक को यह बात बतायी तो उन्होने कहा कि ऐसे बहुत से मामले आते है पर हम दवा के माध्यम से त्वरित राहत नही पहुँचा पाते है। हमने अपनी पढाई के दौरान इस कीट के विषय मे नही पढा। फिर व्यव्हारिक अनुभव तो बिल्कुल नही है। यदि मै भी सीधे उनके पास पहुँचता तो वे शायद उस हद तक राह्त नही दिलवा पाते जिस हद तक आधुनिक सुविधाओ से दूर उस बुजुर्ग ने दिलवायी। निज चिकित्सक ने उस बुजुर्ग के उपायो मे रुचि दिखायी और कहा कि मै भी आजमाऊँगा। मैने कहा एक बार चल कर उस महान आत्मा से मिलकर धन्यवाद तो दे दो। ऐसे ज्ञानी पुरुष हमारे समाज मे है पर उनके ज्ञान को सन्देह से देखा जा रहा है और उन्हे अन्ध-विश्वासी का दर्जा दिया जा रहा है। आज देश के 80 प्रतिशत गाँवो मे आधुनिक चिकित्सक नही है। ऐसे मे तो त्राही-त्राही मच जानी चाहिये थी। पर यह भारतीयो का पारम्परिक चिकित्सकीय ज्ञान है जो उन्हे अपने आस-पास उग रही वनस्पतियो के सरल उपयोगो के बारे मे बताता है। और इसी ज्ञान के कारण वे आधुनिक चिकित्सा के अभाव मे भी जीवित है।
अमेरिकी सेना ने अपने सैनिको के लिये इतनी अच्छी जानकारी उपलब्ध करवायी है। इससे मै बडा ही प्रभावित हुआ। मैने भारतीय सैनिको विशेषकर छत्तीसगढ के जंगलो मे फौजी कारवाई मे बाधा पहुँचाने का दम-खम रखने वाले इस कीट जैसे विषैले जीवो के बारे मे एक वैज्ञानिक रपट बनाने का निर्णय लिया ताकि पारम्परिक चिकित्सकीय ज्ञान पर आधारित साधारण प्रयोगो की सहायता से हमारे जवान इनसे निपट सके। (क्रमश:)
