उस सम्राट की कल्पना करिये जिसने राज-काज के विस्तार के लिये कई विवाह किये है। उस पर राज्य का जबरदस्त बोझ है। उसे रात –दिन काम करना है। रानियो को संतुष्ट करना है फिर सुबह दरबार मे उसी भव्यता और सजगता से न्याय सुनाना है। उसे अपना शारीरिक सौष्ठव भी बरकरार रखना है। अतिथियो से मिलना है और फिर सीमा पर जाकर सैनिको का हौसला भी बढाना है। क्या यह सब एक साधारण इन्सान के लिये सम्भव है? पर पहले के समय मे यह सम्भव था। ऐसे सम्राटो के स्वास्थ्य का जिम्मा राज वैद्यो के कन्धो पर होता था। केवल औषधीयो का सेवन ही नही कराया जाता था बल्कि इस सेवन की कला के बारे मे भी उन्हे बताया जाता था। साल की अलग-अलग ऋतुओ मे अलग-अलग प्रकार की वनौषधीयो का प्रयोग किया जाता था। फिर भी मन मे यह प्रश्न उठता है कि क्या सम्राट सालो तक बिना किसी बाधा के अपने वैवाहिक जीवन मे सफल रहता होगा? सालो तक प्रतिदिन (रात कहे तो ज्यादा सही होगा) कई बार समागम बिना किसी ब्रेक के। आज के जमाने मे ऐसा सोच पाना भी मुश्किल लगता है।
